A dermatologist who speaks your family's language

Dr. Jonathan Aldrete, MD, is a dermatologist with Texas Skin Center and part of Dermatología Texas, the practice's Spanish-language service. He is fluent in Spanish and English, so a patient can go through the whole visit in Spanish: describing symptoms, asking questions and understanding the treatment plan.

If you are booking for a parent or grandparent who is more comfortable in Spanish, that means they can speak with the doctor directly instead of relying on a relative to interpret.

Background and training

Dr. Aldrete is from the El Paso area. His training includes:

  • Undergraduate studies at UTEP and UT Austin, in philosophy, history, political science and biology
  • Medical school at Texas Tech University in Lubbock
  • Internship at Las Palmas Del Sol Medical Center in El Paso, where he was recognized as an outstanding intern
  • Dermatology residency at Texas Tech in Lubbock

What you can see him about

Common skin concerns can be evaluated with Dr. Aldrete and the Spanish-speaking team, including acne, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, warts, rashes, actinic keratosis and mole and skin checks (these linked pages are in Spanish).

Texas Skin Center also offers procedures such as Mohs surgery, Botox, fillers, peels, lasers and pediatric dermatology as a practice. Call 346-888-4400 to confirm which clinician and office offers the service you need.

What a visit with Dr. Aldrete looks like

A first visit usually starts with a conversation about what is bothering the patient, how long it has been going on, and what has already been tried. Dr. Aldrete then examines the skin and explains what he sees, in Spanish or English, whichever the patient prefers.

If treatment is needed, he goes over the options and decides on a plan together with the patient. Family members who come along are welcome to listen and ask questions, but they do not need to translate.

Where he sees patients

Dr. Aldrete sees patients at the Houston / Greenbriar office and the Kingwood office. When booking, choose New Patient Visit or Established Patient Visit and enter the patient's own information. The booking system is in English; for help, call 346-888-4400.

Helping a parent prepare

A little preparation helps the visit go smoothly, especially if you are coordinating for someone else:

  • Bring the insurance card and a photo ID.
  • Write down every medication, cream and supplement your relative uses, including home remedies.
  • If a rash comes and goes, take photos when it flares so the clinician can see it.
  • Note when the problem started and what has already been tried.

When to book sooner

Book soon if a mole or spot is growing, changing color or shape, bleeding or not healing, or if a rash spreads quickly or comes with fever. For swelling of the lips, tongue or throat, or trouble breathing, call 911 instead of waiting for an appointment.
